January 23, 2025

La Cinémathèque française celebrated the career of Sergei Parajanov, one of the greatest Armenian national filmmakers and artists, with a retrospective held from November 28 to December 5, 2024. Organized under the high patronage of the Ambassador of Armenia, S.E. Hasmik Tolmajian, this event highlighted Parajanov's prolific and diverse body of work, born in 1924 in Tbilisi and passed away in 1990 in Yerevan.

This retrospective featured the restoration and presentation of the emblematic film "The Last Collage," an introspective work on the life, art, and struggles of the filmmaker. Parajanov's artistic journey, influenced by his Georgian and Armenian environment, is expressed through his unique collage techniques and his vision that transcends the boundaries of image and narration.

The Francis Kurkdjian Endowment Fund contributed to the valorization of this emblematic figure, praised by renowned filmmakers such as Tarkovsky, Fellini, and Godard. Through this retrospective, La Cinémathèque française paid tribute to an artist whose legacy continues to resonate in the global cinematic landscape.
